I'll See You
This post is one of Blogadda's Tangy Tuesday Picks :)
The rooms are cold
The books, dusty
There’s a slice of pizza on the table
The window sill is cold against my cheek
And the rain, merciless outside.
The last cigarette flickers
And dies
The coffee sits on the table
Like a black marble, cold and still.
I tap my fingers, bite my lips.
There’s work on my computer
There’s a list to follow
Mails, memos, calls to make.
But I read the sticky note on the fridge instead –
Your sexy slanting scribble
‘Love you!’ and a doodle of two hearts
Intertwined.
I look around th house
The walls, our pictures.
I have been here too long now
Waiting, planning, worrying
for days that come and go
Never enough.
I trace my finger on your tanned face -
the picture from the beach
And I have to see you now
So I get up
And head out in the chilly rain
Lock the door, take the cab.
You may be hours away,
But they are going to end
And when the rain stops
I’ll see you.
